National Sports Centre gets ASA approval 15 December 2005

Congratulations go to the National Sports Centre on becoming an approved centre for the delivery of courses leading to Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) certification of levels 1 and 2 from January 1st 2006.

New criteria specifications on the operational side as well as the teaching provision had to be met before this certification was given.

The centre’s Activities officer Ken Hedley said: ‘Before being given this marvellous status by the ASA, who are the largest national governing body of sport in swimming, the new criterion was quite tough to get through this time. Fortunately, the NSC is a first class facility so we were off to a good start. The main things that took us through were our policies that make the operation work successful, our access for all, management organisation, first class maintenance staff, programme provision, which includes both wet and dry, reception and administration personnel, and all staff including the café who provide us with a good cross section of hot/cold foods and drinks.’

Tourism Minister David Cretney said: ‘This award will mean the partnership between the National Sports Centre and the ASA will be strengthened even more as the on-going training will develop more teachers, more club coaches, and will help the Island’s swimming squad and swimming clubs to have good quality teaching personnel to develop our Island’s young swimmers. I’d like to record my thanks to staff at the NSC for achieving this high standard.’
