Hairy Bikers get a Taste of Mann in new TV Series 13 January 2006

Hairy bikers Dave Myers (L) and Si King ( R)BBC2’s new culinary programme Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook will showcase the Isle of Man’s food and scenery in an episode on Tuesday 31 January at 8.30pm.

The Department of Tourism and Leisure assisted with the crew’s visit during the TT races in June last year. Hairy Bikers Dave Myers and Si King visited the Island to make one of twelve programmes due for transmission in two parts, six to commence in January and another six later this year. Among other countries they visited were Ireland, who share a programme with the Isle of Man, Namibia, Turkey, Vietnam, Mexico and Transylvania. During the series they give viewers an insight into the culture and cuisine of the different places they visit as they whizz around on their motorbikes.

The jolly enthusiastic duo joined in with the TT festival celebrations, tried out the TT course, cooked food for monkey bikers and discovered the delights of eating a crab sandwich on Peel beach. They also found time to visit Ballavilley farm to meet the special breed of Loughtan sheep.

Tourism Minister David Cretney MHK commented:

‘I’m pleased the Hairy Bikers chose to feature the Isle of Man in their series. We have one of the best heritage products in the British Isles, our own cuisine, stunning countryside and much more.

This is a great opportunity for us to show off the Isle of Man as a holiday destination.’ This is one of the many TV crews the Department hosted last year. There is also a programme about the Isle of Man ‘Nationwide’, scheduled to be broadcast on Ireland’s leading radio station RTE TV1 on Monday 30th January.
