Peel First Responders’ Presentation 18 January 2006

In December a presentation was held at Peel Day Centre, when members of the newly formed Peel Neighbourhood First Responder Scheme were presented with a defibrillator from Charles Sentance of The British Heart Foundation.

This life-saving piece of equipment enables members of the First Responder Scheme in Peel to treat patients suffering from specific heart conditions prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

The Peel Neighbourhood First Responder Scheme was set up through a joint partnership with the St John Ambulance and the Island’s Ambulance and Paramedic Service, its purpose being to respond to specific life-threatening emergencies whilst an ambulance is on route. Anyone wishing to be considered for future membership of the Scheme is asked to contact Mrs Brenda Quayle at St John Ambulance HQ, Glencrutchery Road, Douglas.

Both the St John Ambulance and the Island’s Ambulance and Paramedic Service are delighted that the British Heart Foundation is donating this vital life-saving equipment which will benefit patients with heart conditions who reside in the Peel area.

Steve Sieling, Chief Ambulance Officer, said: “The local branch of the British Heart Foundation has always been very generous here on the Island, and this latest presentation of a defibrillator to the Peel Neighbourhood First Responder Scheme is typical of its commitment in providing equipment that is necessary to treat certain life- threatening heart conditions”.
