Manx National Heritage Appeals for TT Memorabilia 26 May 2006

As part of the 100th anniversary of the TT races, Manx National Heritage will be holding a major exhibition at the Manx Museum in the summer of 2007.

This exhibition will be a celebration of the history of this event and of the people who make the TT what it is; from the spectators and riders, to mechanics and marshals. Curators at the Manx Museum are now planning the exhibition and are looking for your help!

Matthew Richardson, Curator of Social History for Manx National Heritage, said: TT Memorabilia on Display at the Manx Museum

“Manx National Heritage are particularly interested in borrowing items from before the Second World War. We already have a very broad and representative TT collection, covering motorcycles, helmets, marshals’ tabards and just about everything in between, but there are gaps in our collections. For example, we know that in the 1920s marshals wore a distinctive white peaked cap and coat. We don’t have either of these and it would be interesting to find out if any survive.
We also need rider’s leathers and helmets from the 1920s. If anyone has any other memorabilia which they are willing to lend to us, we would be most interested to hear from them. Anything loaned for the duration of the exhibition would be returned safely at the end.”

If you can help, please contact Matthew Richardson at the Manx Museum, Kingswood Grove, Douglas Isle of Man, tel: 01624 648000.
