Changes to Pulrose evening and early morning bus services 16 January 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure has announced temporary changes to evening bus services to the Heather and Hazel Crescent areas of Pulrose.

Director of Public Transport Mike Ball explained:

‘We have been finding it increasingly difficult for buses to get round Heather and Hazel Crescents during evenings when there are a lot of parked vehicles on narrow residential roads. On Sunday evening two of our services were actually unable to complete the loop around the Crescents and had to reverse out. We have therefore taken the decision that, at least in the short term, our Pulrose services (route 21) will not go around the loop after 1700 hours and will restart using the loop after 0800 hours when the parked vehicles have cleared.’

The Department will be working closely with both the Department of Transport and the Police in an endeavour to restore the full service routes as soon as possible.

Minister for Tourism and Leisure Hon Adrian Earnshaw MHK explained:

‘We have problems with badly parked vehicles on a number of estates and at times we do struggle to maintain services. We would earnestly ask motorists parking on bus routes, especially on narrow estate roads, to be careful to allow room for a bus to pass. Please remember that bus services are very important to many in our community but through inconsiderate parking they are being denied to your neighbours. Whilst we are disappointed to have to curtail services, our primary concern must be the safety of our passengers and other road users.’
