Returning for a Summer Spectacular:The Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland to perform with local Choir 2 April 2007

Following their incredibly successful concert at the Villa Marina in November 2006, the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland are returning for more!

The Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland in November 2006Organisers from the FMNH announced today that this world class band will perform a summer spectacular at the Villa Marina on July 2nd at 7:30 pm.

Known for their pageantry, but much more than a military band, the Marines play a repertoire of popular scores which appeal to all ages. They played to a packed house in November, leaving organisers overwhelmed with requests for a repeat. The concert in July will be a summer celebration of music as opposed to anything particularly military.

Captain Tony Smallwood RM, Director of Music of the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland, said:

“It is a great privilege to be invited back to perform at the Villa Marina, especially as this is one of my last concerts with this band prior to moving to a new job. We will be featuring our world class Corps of Drums, and there will be some outstanding solo items and film scores, including the sound of our magnificent Big Band, as well as some surprises along the way. Our spectacular finale will feature music from Riverdance and also our traditional Sunset Ceremony.”

Joining the Marines on stage will be the Choir from Castle Rushen High School ‘Covingys Maynrey’. The Choir - comprised of students aged 11 to 18 - won first prizes in the Mixed Chorals and the Open Concert Classes in the 2006 Manx Music Festival.

Maggie Richardson, the Director of Covingys Maynrey said:

“We are extremely honoured to have been invited to perform with the Marine Band. It is a wonderful opportunity for the Castle Rushen singers to be able work with and learn from such a fine group of professional musicians and we're looking forward to it very much.”

The evening will principally be in aid of the RNLI. Tickets are priced at £15 per adult and £10 for the under 15’s. Tickets are available now from the Villa Box office on 694555 so don’t miss out!
