Chief Minister attends British-Irish Council Summit 17 July 2007

THE importance to the Isle of Man of maintaining good relations with its neighbours has been stressed by Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK following his attendance at the ninth summit meeting of the British-Irish Council in Belfast yesterday.

‘It was a great privilege to represent the Isle of Man as an equal partner alongside all the other governments of the British Isles and Ireland,’ said Mr Brown, ‘The British-Irish Council is a valuable forum for the Island, recognising our separate identity and offering political contacts at the highest level.

‘The Isle of Man now operates on a global basis and it is vital that we are understood as an enterprising and internationally responsible country in our own right. The British-Irish Council provides a great opportunity to get that message across to our neighbours.’
