Industrial action continues in Royal Mail 9 August 2007

While industrial action in Royal Mail by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) continues, Isle of Man Post Office has issued an update on the latest effects on customers.

Thursday 9th August 2007

Mail posted to UK addresses will be subject to significant delay as a result of the industrial action affecting all of Royal Mail’s major sorting centres. Meanwhile deliveries in the UK on Friday will be maintained but a substantial proportion of Thursday’s posting will not connect with these deliveries. Regrettably, the next round of industrial action affects delivery offices on Saturday which means that any mail for delivery on Friday could be delayed until Monday.

Royal Mail has robust contingency arrangements in place to maintain the next day delivery of Special Delivery items but unfortunately the time guarantee cannot be offered. Inbound mail for delivery on the Island will be largely unaffected.

Friday 10th August 2007

All delivery offices in the UK will be taking strike action on Saturday which will result in Friday’s posted mail being delayed and not delivered until Monday. The backlog of mail from Thursday and Friday’s industrial action will be processed over the weekend and the majority delivered on Monday. Again, Special Delivery services will not be guaranteed for Saturday delivery.

Meanwhile we expect inbound mail volumes from the UK for delivery on Friday to be significantly lower than normal due to the disruption to sorting offices.

Saturday 11th August 2007

Mail posted from the Island should suffer no disruption. We expect inbound mail volumes from the UK to be significantly higher than normal due to Royal Mail recovering from some of the UK backlog.

Monday 13th August 2007

Mail posted from the Island should suffer no disruption. Inbound mail volumes are expected to be much greater than normal as Royal Mail continues to clear the backlog and customers may notice a later than normal delivery time.

Bank pouch and Parcelforce services will continue to be unaffected by the industrial action as will local to local mail.

Isle of Man Post Office is continuing to liaise with Royal Mail on a daily basis and a further update will be issued on Monday for the rest of next week. The industrial action is likely to continue until Friday 17th August 2007.
