Honda Motor Europe Delegates Visit TT Exhibition 13 November 2007

Honda Motor Europe Ltd commenced their inaugural European Leadership Programme on the Isle of Man earlier this morning at the Manx Museum.

The conference is currently being attended by business leaders from across Europe, who were treated to the final viewing of Manx National Heritage’s prestigious TT Centenary Exhibition ‘Staying the Course’.

Delegates received a welcome at the Manx Museum from Minister for Tourism & Leisure, Hon. Adrian Earnshaw, MHK, followed by a presentation and tour of the exhibition, by Manx National Heritage Curator of Social History Matthew Richardson.

Matthew Richardson commented:

“Manx National Heritage was approached in September by Honda Motor Europe, who wanted to hold their inaugural Leadership Programme on the Island but only if they could use the ‘Staying The Course’ exhibition as a backdrop to the event. Naturally, we were honoured to receive such a request and pulled out the stops to make the visit of the Honda representatives a memorable one.
The delegates were impressed by the amount of Honda material in the exhibition and by the large part the Isle of Man has played in the development of the Honda Motor Company. It was here that Soichiro Honda launched his bid to break into the European market by competing in the TT.
The delegates, including the President of Honda Motor Europe, Mr Shigeru Takagi, were impressed by the effort Manx National Heritage had put into bringing the TT exhibition together, particularly when they learned that planning for this began 18 months in advance, and that artefacts had been loaned from all over the world”.

The week long leadership programme continues at the Sefton Hotel and includes a discussion on what the TT has meant to the development of Honda, its culture & products.
