Tourism Awards 2007 Announced 26 November 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure’s second annual Tourism Awards presentation took place today, Monday 26 November, at the Villa Marina and follows on from the success of last year.

The awards recognise the travel industry partners in the Isle of Man who have supported the development of tourism and make a significant commitment to both quality and service.

Over 1000 nominations were received from the visitors and residents who were asked to identify holidays and tourism organisations that provided an enjoyable and reliable holiday experience.

The seven categories were:

• Best hotel

• Best small hotel/B&B of the year

• Best self-catering

• Best tourist attraction

• Best restaurant

• Best event

• Best customer service from an individual

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘The awards celebrate the Island’s very best tourism businesses. All of the finalists are winners in their own areas, but more importantly they are setting the standards for others to follow.’

At the end of his speech he went on to say:

‘I am pleased to announce that next year the Department of Tourism and Leisure has teamed up with Isle of Man Newspapers for a joint presentation with them at their annual Awards for Excellence. We look forward to working together as we continue to flourish and celebrate the Isle of Man.’

The judging panel consisted of Paul Murphy - Business and Training Development Manager Isle of Man College, Findlay Macleod – Chief Executive of Isle of Man Creameries and Lisa Duckworth – General Manager for the mailing division of Isle of Man Post Office.

The winners chosen were as follows :

Best Hotel (30 + bedrooms) Sefton Hotel,

Douglas Best Small Hotel/B&B of the year Joint winners, Dreem Ard & Aaron House

Best Self-Catering Stansfield House, Dalby

Best Tourist Attraction The House of Manannan

Best Restaurant Horizons Restaurant, close 2nd was The Millennium Saagar.

Best Event TT2007 Best Customer Service from an individual John Bates, Laxey Campsite

The Department would also like to express their thanks to the airline Flybe for sponsoring the ‘Best Hotel’ category by donating two return flight tickets for a holiday to the Isle of Man.
