Peel Inner Harbour Dredging 4 February 2008

Maintenance Dredging of Peel Inner Harbour is scheduled to start on Friday 1st February 2008 and is expected to take up to two months to complete.

The work will involve taking approximately half a metre to one metre depth of silt, sand and gravel deposits from the harbour bed from the flap gate to the bottom of the slipway on Station Quay at the top end of the harbour.

The work will be carried out by Wyre Marine Services of Fleetwood using two of their small dredgers ‘Lantic Bay’ (which worked in Douglas and Peel in 2007) and ‘Ramsgate’. The spoil will then be deposited at sea approximately one mile off Peel Hill in accordance with established procedures.

The timing of the dredging work has been decided after consultation with DAFF so as to avoid as much as possible disturbing the migratory fish which may return to the River Neb for spawning.

The dredging will also assist in the proposed scheme for the installation of pontoons in Peel Inner Harbour which is due to come before the February sitting of Tynwald for approval.

Further details of the dredging operations may be obtained by contacting Peel Harbour Office on 842338 during normal office hours 7 days a week or Douglas Harbour Control on 686628 which is open 24 hours.
