100th Ophthalmic Procedure at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital 3 March 2008

The Department of Health and Social Security is delighted to announce that the Ophthalmology Waiting List Initiative has recently treated its 100th patient at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital.

Hon W E Teare MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security said,

“This is very good news and I am delighted with the progress of the Ophthalmology Waiting List Initiative. Mr Poellman and the Ophthalmology Team at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital are doing a sterling job and I am sure that the 200th patient treated will not be long in coming.”

The 100th treated patient, Mr Herbert Crosbie, aged 74, of Douglas said,

“I was delighted to hear I was the 100th ophthalmology patient treated at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital. I had my left eye operation at Nobles Hospital six months ago, having waited nineteen months for the treatment. I was then told that it may be up to two years before I could have my right eye treated, so I was delighted when I received an appointment to receive treatment for my right eye, so soon after my initial operation.”

Mr Crosbie added,

“I was very impressed with how quickly the procedure at Ramsey was carried out. My appointment was at 11 a.m. on the 14th February and I was home again at 1.30 p.m. that same day. Mr Poellman and the staff on the ward made me feel very welcome. They are all very approachable, courteous and efficient and I was very well looked after."

Mrs Pamela Crowe, Person with Delegated Authority for Health Services, said,

“Latest figures show that since the Ophthalmology Waiting List Initiative commenced in December 2007, the number of patients awaiting ophthalmology treatment has dropped by more than 50%. This is wonderful news and is a result of the combined efforts of the Ophthalmology Team’s at both Noble’s Hospital and Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital.”
