Walk and Talk Goes Green 17 April 2008

The Island is getting ready to kick start a series of Walk and Talk sessions in three of our most scenic spots.

The twelve weekly sessions, run by Department of Tourism and Leisure Sports Development Unit and the Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry with the assistance of the DHSS Public Health Directorate, will alternate between Curraghs Wildlife Park, Silverdale Glen and St Johns Arboretum. The first of the sessions takes place on Friday 9 May, starting in the car park of the Wildlife Park at 1.15pm.

All routes will take approximately one hour and are relatively flat. Each session will conclude with refreshments in the Wildlife Park Cafe, Silverdale Cafe and St Johns Parish Hall.

Department of Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw explained:

‘If you attend Walk and Talk sessions already this is an opportunity to try something a little different and if you haven’t taken part previously they offer a great opportunity to embark on a sociable and fun exercise programme.’

Organiser Sport Development Officer Gianni Epifani also added:

‘The Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry, Access and Recreation Officer Graeme Watson has been particularly helpful in devising accessible routes both in Silverdale, Wildlife Park and the Arboretum in St Johns, all walkers will really appreciate the local scenery of the three routes.’

Each session will cost £1.50, and all walks will be supervised. Walkers can attend as many or as few sessions as they like, however, there are incentives to keep them coming back for more.

If you attend two sessions you will receive a Walk and Talk water bottle. Walkers who attend six sessions will receive a special edition Walk and Talk t shirt and those that attend all 12 sessions will receive a special edition sweat shirt.
