QEII bids Bon Voyage to QE2 - Postal Tribute 30 June 2008

Isle of Man Post Office has unveiled a new commemorative cover to mark the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the QE2.

Fond associations between Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II and Cunard Line’s Queen Elizabeth 2 span four decades. The Queen will tour the ship on June 2 and meet with captains past and present, as well as members of the crew. She will also unveil a specially commissioned painting by Robert Lloyd of the vessel in Southampton waters. It is fitting the QE2 should be honoured with such a prestigious personal Bon Voyage.

The cover is a limited edition of 2,000 and features three photographs – The Queen launching the liner at John Brown’s famous shipbuilding yard on the Clyde on September 20, 1967, the QE2 docked in Southampton and The Queen herself. The special hand numbered envelope also includes two QE2 postage stamps cancelled with a one-day only gold foil postmark.

The Queen’s final goodbye to QE2 during her visit onboard in Southampton on June 2, 2008 will reflect the interest she has shown in the ship since she named the vessel more than 40 years ago.

The cover, priced £8.50, can be purchased online at www.iomstamps.com
