Last posting dates for Christmas announced 3 December 2008

Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to announce a 2p reduction in the local rate of postage for Christmas cards and letters. The reduction in postage will apply to members of the public who post cards using postage stamps and will come into effect from Monday 1st December until the advertised last day of posting, December 22. Regrettably, the reduction in price does not apply to business mail.

Meanwhile to ensure customers don’t miss out on their festive cards and gifts reaching family and friends this Christmas, the last dates for posting mail have also been announced.

Mail bound to South and Central America, Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Far East (except Japan) Australia and New Zealand by air should be sent no later than December 5, while mail to the USA, Canada, Japan, Eastern Europe and operational BFPOs should be posted by December 10.

Mail destined for Western Europe and static BFPOs must be sent by December 12. For sending letters, large letters and packets to the UK the last date for posting is Saturday, December 20. For sending post locally and Parcelforce 48 the last chance is Monday, 22 December with the final day of posting for local and UK Special Delivery – next day delivery guaranteed, Parcelforce by 9am, 10am, midday and 24-hour services being Tuesday, December 23.

To assist customers during this very busy period, our Douglas Sorting Office will be open to post parcels and packages from 1000 to 2000 hours Monday to Friday from December 1 until December 22. However items need to be posted before 1845 at Douglas Sorting Office to ensure despatch to the UK and Overseas the same day. Any items posted after this time will be despatched the following day.

The mail and parcel collection counter will also be extending its opening hours as follows;

  • Week Commencing December 8: 0700-2100 Monday-Friday and 0700-1400 on Saturday.
  • Week commencing December 15: 0700-2130 Monday-Friday and 0700-1400 on Saturday.
  • Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December: 0700-2130
  • Wednesday 24th and 31st December: 0700-1800

Finally you can help us this Christmas by making sure you address your mail correctly by ensuring the postcode is included - this makes a real difference to how quickly we can process your mail – and by posting as early as possible.

Information about last posting dates and addressing standards can be found on the Christmas page of our website www.iompost.com

Customers should note postage is exempt from VAT and the reduction in the price of local postage throughout December has nothing to do with the forthcoming VAT changes. The local postage price will return to 30p on December 23, 2008.
