Work Starts on new Affordable Housing in Jurby 27 May 2011

The commencement of works on the construction of four bungalows for the Department of Social Care Housing Division in Jurby next to the Bretney Estate, is to be celebrated today Friday 27th May 2011 by a sod cutting ceremony undertaken by the Minister for Social Care, Hon Martyn Quayle and attended by various Members of the House of Keys, representatives from the Local Authority, and project team.

Hon Martyn Quayle, MHK said:

“He was pleased to be celebrating another step in the progression of the Isle of Man Government’s programme of affordable housing development which has seen the completion of over 600 new homes during the 5 years of the current Government Plan”. Member for Housing, Bill Henderson, MHK stated: “Our recent investment of housing in Jurby for public sector use has been targeted at two bedroom properties for occupation by smaller households because most of the older stock of properties in Jurby is larger family houses. These four bungalows will be used for allocation to our older tenants. We are also currently awaiting the outcome of a planning application for six apartments on plots in the Bretney Estate which hopefully will follow on from the completion of these properties”.

The development is being built by northern contractor Kinrade Brothers and works are due to be completed next spring.
