Public Notice: Visitors with Dogs 11 April 2013

Manx National Heritage offers a huge variety of places to go for a walk, both close to towns, on the coast and in the countryside. These places include some of the Isle of Man’s most important archaeological sites and some of its most iconic tourist attractions.

In welcoming dog owners, we ask that you keep your dog under control and deal with its waste thoughtfully. In return, we offer some fantastic locations to explore, and provide facilities and information where we can.

Some of our sites provide facilities for visitors with dogs, such as shady parking space in car parks and bins for dog waste. These facilities will vary from site to site.

Please help keep the countryside a safe, healthy and enjoyable place for you and your dog, other visitors, wildlife and livestock.

Always keep your dog in sight and under control; it’s best to use a lead.

Never let your dog chase wildlife or go near farm animals; it can cause serious injuries and your dog could become lost, hit by a car or shot if the animal disturbs livestock.

Observe local notices when you are out and about. There may be restrictions in woodland or on farmland at sensitive times of year, like in spring, during the lambing season, and between the beginning of March and the end of July when ground-nesting birds are on eggs or raising their young.

If your dog fouls, please pick it up and dispose of it in a suitable waste bin. If there is no bin, please take waste away for disposal.

Thank you for helping keep our historic sites and countryside a safe, clean and enjoyable place to visit.
