Department of Health and Social Security supports the introduction of a breast screening call and recall service 8 November 2005

The Department of Health and Social Security today confirmed that it recognises the value of the introduction of a breast screening call and recall service on the Isle of Man.

The Department is aware that the Women’s Institute (WI) has asked its members to vote on the issue.

Minister for Health and Social Security, Steve Rodan MHK said: “I would like to reassure the public that this very important health care development remains a priority for the Department, but it can’t move forward at the present because it is not funded. The Department has been in discussion with Bryan Stott, President of all Island Anti Cancer for several months, to try to identify a way forward on this very important health issue. The Department is currently considering options and is aware that further funding will be required to ensure that a long term commitment can be given to the service. As such, the Department will continue to press for the resources to introduce a breast screening call and recall service on the Isle of Man. Meantime we would encourage women over 50 years of age to refer themselves for two yearly check ups and we welcome the regular breast cancer awareness campaigns”.
