Science is Fun - Half Term Activities at the House of Manannan 12 October 2005

As part of Manx National Heritage’s Education Services’ programme, the House of Manannan will be offering ‘Magnetic Magic’ - a week of fun-filled science sessions to be held this October half-term, guaranteed to cheer up the gloomiest autumn day.

The sessions will be open to children aged 7 to 11, with various activities available. There will be magnetic sculptures to make, a number of experiments to do, tricks to learn and magnetic toys and games to play with. Children will also have the chance to see a number of different magnetic materials, including some high-strength magnets.

Manx National Heritage’s Education Services Assistant, Stephen Lillie, said: Magnetic Magic

“It’s a joy to take these sessions and see the youngsters learning about science in a unique and fun way. I’m sure people remember making magnetic beans from pill cases and tinfoil when they were children, and seeing the unusual way in which these magnetic beans jumped about. I’ll make sure there are some jumping beans in these sessions!”

‘Magnetic Magic’ will run from Monday 24th to Friday 28th October at the House of Manannan. Sessions will take place daily, from 10.00am to 11.30am during the morning and 2.00pm to 3.30pm in the afternoon. Bookings for these workshops will be taken at the Manx Museum, Douglas (tel: 648000) from the 17th to the 21st October, and tickets are to be paid for on the day at the House of Manannan reception. Tickets will cost £2.50 per child per session, including the child’s access to the House of Manannan displays, if accompanied by a paying adult.

The House of Manannan is part of the award-winning Story of Mann, and is open to the public daily from 10am to 5pm throughout the year.
