Camera Obscura Reopens for Season 10 April 2006

Camera ObscurerThe Department of Tourism and Leisure is pleased to announce that the Camera Obscura will reopen for the 2006 season starting on Easter Saturday. Manned by the Isle of Man Victorian Society on a voluntary basis, the refurbished Camera Obscura enjoyed a successful inaugural year in 2005.

Peter Kelly of the Isle of Man Victorian Society stated:

‘The number of visitors in 2005 far exceeded our expectations and our volunteers were kept busy throughout the first season of operation. We hope to maintain, and build upon, the initial interest and would like to emphasise that visiting the Camera Obscura will ensure its future. We were delighted that over 4000 people visited in 2005 and locals and visitors alike are again invited to take the opportunity to experience this Victorian curiosity.”

Eddie Lowey MLC, Chairman of the Leisure Division of DTL added

‘We are extremely grateful to the Victorian Society for their willing and enthusiastic volunteers who man the Camera Obscura – their assistance is invaluable and has enabled so many to relish its unusual delights. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us over the Easter period and provide an additional attraction for all to enjoy.'
Notes – The Great Union Camera Obscura is open weekends and Bank Holidays, Easter to September
Opening Times - Saturdays 1pm – 4pm, Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am – 4pm
