New head teacher at St Thomas' 2 June 2006

Jonathan Ayres was recently appointed as the Head teacher for St Thomas's C of E School.

Jonathan joined the school in September 2004 as Deputy head, became acting Head in September 2005 before being appointed as the Head teacher in March 2006. Prior to this Jonathan was at Ballacloan Infants school from September 1999 to 2004 and also Willaston school from September 1994. Jonathan Ayres

He was also a member of the Modern Foreign Languages Team for 3 years from 1991 and his probationary year was served at Christchurch Primary C E School in Moreton on the Wirral.

Originally from Walthamstow, Jonathan achieved a B.Ed (hons) at Chester College of Higher Education.

In his role as Head teacher Jonathan aims "To ensure that St. Thomas’ continues to be a happy school with a strong Christian ethos, and is a learning community that challenges and encourages all pupils to achieve personal goals". "I place high expectations on all the pupils and staff in order to achieve excellence, whilst striving to make learning fun and enjoyable. The school encourages independent learning and problem-solving and aims to give children a broad, balanced curriculum with lots of opportunities for children to learn about the Isle of Man and their responsibilities as members of the community."

Jonathan is married to Sara (Deputy head teacher at St John's primary school) and they have a daughter Catreeney (Kitty).

In his spare time he enjoys hockey, badminton, the Parish Walk, learning to speak Manx and worships regularly at the Broadway Baptist Church.
