Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital Centenary Logo Competition 22 June 2006

The Department of Health and Social Security is delighted to announce the winners of the Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital Centenary Logo Competition.

On 23 July 2007, Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital will celebrate the centenary of its opening. In preparation for this, the Centenary Planning Group arranged a competition and invited children from schools across the island to design a logo to be featured on a centenary monument, brochures and souvenirs.

The competition was divided into three categories: Infant, Junior and Senior, with a winner and three runners up in each category. The outright winner was selected from the three category winners. 480 entries were received and were judged by Mrs Hilary Summerscales and Mrs Claire Pullinger from the Mannin Art Group. Each of the entries will be featured in an exhibition in the hospital corridor for the next two months.

Ramsey Hospital was established by public money and continues to enjoy the support and generosity of local people and organisations. When the National Health Service was introduced in 1948, financing the Hospital became the responsibility of the then Health Services Board, but management and the day to day running of the hospital transferred from the Trustees to the Government in 1963. Today the Department of Health and Social Security currently provides a budget to Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital in excess of £4.3 million each year.

The Hospital compares well with, and even exceeds, the service provision of other community hospitals across the UK, and is up-to-date with its standards, equipment, and procedures.

Having enjoyed support from the public and Government during its first century, Hospital Management is assured that this will continue well into the next 100 years.

Awards were presented to prize winners by Anne Craine, MHK and Political Member for Health, and a certificate of merit was posted to each entrant as an acknowledgement of their endeavour.
