DLGE Supports Douglas Corporation with Kerbside Collection Survey 10 July 2006

The Department of Local Government and the Environment (“the DLGE”) has commissioned a public survey on kerbside collection to enable a fuller understanding to be gained of the recent ‘pilot’ scheme operated by the Douglas Corporation.

Earlier this year Douglas Corporation completed a five month pilot kerbside collection scheme within the area of Governors Hill, which collected over 35 tonnes of paper, glass and aluminium for recycling.

The DLGE, which is working in partnership with the Douglas Corporation on this initiative, has sponsored a summer student, Claire Franklin, to conduct a detailed review of the recycling scheme, in which feedback from Governors Hill residents will be sought. The aim of the survey is to identify which aspects of the scheme were successful, and if any aspects could be improved. It is envisaged that the results of the survey will inform and help collection authorities to improve the operation of future kerbside recycling schemes on the Island.

The questionnaire will be sent to all the residents in the Governors Hill area by the DLGE during the week commencing July 10th, with a stamped addressed envelope to be returned by the 21st of July.

Alan Donnelly, Assistant Borough Engineer from Douglas Corporation, says

“The Corporation is delighted that the survey is being carried out by the DLGE. It will be an excellent opportunity for Douglas Corporation to listen to the views of Governors Hill residents regarding the kerbside recycling trial. I am confident that the DLGE will receive lots of feedback from householders, which will provide an essential insight into the scheme, and will allow us improve our recycling services in the future”.
Any residents are being asked to contact Stephanie Gray or Joanne Hetherington at the DLGE Waste Operation Management Unit, Tel 686540 if they would like further information.
