Department of Transport completes Rhencullen Footway Link 7 August 2006

The Department of Transport has recently completed work on the construction of a new footway link on the A3 TT Course between Kirk Michael and Ballaugh at Rhencullen. Until recently there was no footway for a short distance of about 120 metres along this particularly narrow and relatively fast section of road, and pedestrians had no choice other than to walk on the highway.

Mindful of the practical constraints and the rural qualities of the site, the Department has built the new footway behind the tree lined highway boundary. The required position meant that a wooden boardwalk was constructed behind a row of mature trees instead of a traditional footway.

Minister for Transport, Phil Braidwood comments

“The Department remains extremely grateful to local landowners who volunteered small sections of their gardens for this project. The footway has been built on their land for the benefit and safety of the community as a whole.”
