Students get taste of life in Ugandan school 30 January 2007

ST Ninian’s High School students got a taste of life in Uganda as their fund-raising to build a school there continued.

During EatLess4CiU, pupils paid £2 to eat what a Ugandan child might eat for lunch instead of their usual school meal.

A basic dish of boiled potatoes and beans was served in a tomato-based sauce. Kristina Crawford said:

‘The canteens in both lower and upper school served this option and did a fantastic job. More than 150 students took part and enjoyed the experience and we raised over £450, including generous donations.’

Through its MAD 4CiU – Make a Difference for Children in Uganda – appeal, and linking up with the charity Abaana, St Ninian’s is raising funds in a variety of ways towards a school for 300 children in Kiwumu.

The school has raised more than two thirds of its £30,000 target already, after just a term.
