School concert hits right note 25 March 2007

A MUSICAL Extravaganza held to raise funds for St Ninian's High School's Mad4CiU appeal was a huge success.

More than 600 people attended the gig at the Villa Marina, Douglas, on Wednesday, helping to raise more than £3,000 towards St Ninian's £30,000 appeal to build a school in Uganda. Sam Barks belts out a number

Teacher Graham Bassett said:

'The event had wonderful support from the local business community, parents, staff and friends of the school but the most remarkable aspect of the evening was that it was organised by students and except for King Chiaullee, all the acts were performed by students. The quality of their performances was exceptional and the organisers wish to thank everybody who helped the evening to go so smoothly.'

The main acts were Sarah Brown and Joe Wylde (SNHS) and Luke O'Reilly (Ballakermeen), Represent Dance Company (Ballakermeen), Callum Taylor (SNHS), the Broadway Theatre Company, the Western School of Dance, Young Magicians of Mann, King Chiaullee, the SNHS Dance Group, Sam Barks (SNHS), Dan Hamblett (SNHS), Stone Creation (SNHS).

Mr Bassett said:

'The waitresses did a superb job in getting food to the tables so quickly at half time and the kitchen staff from SNHS did a fantastic job in providing food for 300 people in just 15 minutes. Mike Horsthuis compered the show in his inimitable style and organised a Kings and Queens fund-raising event after the interval that contributed £300. The Villa Marina management and staff as always did a first class job and the technical support was just outstanding.'
