Tynwald backing sought for school works 8 April 2007

THE Department of Education will ask the April sitting of Tynwald to endorse the expenditure of £347,198 on phase two of the reconstruction of the Medway building at Ramsey Grammar School.

Tynwald gave the go-ahead in February 2006 for the construction of the new building to commence and the works are progressing well. At the time it was explained that poor ground conditions and the need to install sprinklers meant additional funding would be sought early in 2007/2008 for this second phase, to complete the overall development.

The further funding, if approved, would enable the refurbishment and furnishing of the food technology suite, the creation of a surfaced car parking area at the front of the West building and the provision of interactive white boards and data projectors within the new building. It would also provide computer-aided design and manufacturing equipment for the new Design and Technology department.

The work would be carried out alongside existing work and would be completed in time for the new facility to be fully operational by the start of the new school year in September 2007.
