Castle Mona to Re-open for Centenary TT Festival 24 April 2007

The ninety eight room Castle Mona Hotel, which unexpectedly closed in November 2006, is to re-open to facilitate the TT centenary this year.

‘Travelling Britain’ of Germany have reached an agreement with the new owners, The Sefton Group PLC, for a short lease from May until June.

Travelling Britain’s Managing Director Tim Bennett commented:

‘We have been sending visitors to the Island since 1990 with our client base increasing year on year. This year we have had record levels of bookings, all of which we thought we had serviced. However, the closure of the Castle Mona and the Regal Hotel left us facing a serious shortfall in rooms and beds on reservations that we understood could no longer be honoured.

We would not let all our clients down – some of whom have been travelling with us for over ten years – our reputation and their holidays were too important, so urgent negotiations were started with a view to get the hotel’s doors open. Again, I must place on record my sincere thanks to all on the board at The Sefton Group, in particular Mr Ferguson Lacey and Mr Woodiwiss, whose professional and pragmatic advice has been invaluable, and to Cowley Groves for their help.’

Mr Bennett added:

‘Our work really starts now and we have teams of people working long hours to try and ensure our guests are as comfortable as possible. We have an experienced licensee in the process of applying to the courts for a bar licence, The Sefton Group are dealing with some building issues, and we are arranging the final details of our clients holidays. We are happy we have this opportunity to meet all our commitments and remain grateful to those who have offered us support and advice.’
