Isle of Man Government Laboratory set to test fuel for TT 11 May 2007

As has become normal practice, the Isle of Man Government Laboratory is set to test fuel on behalf the Race Scrutineers at this year’s TT.

Strict Race Regulations control the type of fuel that may be used in the races. In order to ensure fair play the fuel from the tanks of all winners and placeholders is tested to ensure that it conforms to the required specification – failure could result in disqualification.

This work is undertaken by the Government Laboratory, with staff working under pressure to provide reliable assessments of the fuel within the tight timescales required. In readiness for this year’s centenary event the equipment used by the Laboratory has been updated to maximise its effectiveness in testing modern fuels.

The Government Laboratory is part of the Department of Local Government and the Environment. Minister John Shimmin said

“When I took office I was astounded at the range of testing undertaken by the Government Laboratory in support of the businesses and people of the Island. The testing of fuel for the TT (and MGP) races is one aspect of which I was unaware, as I suspect are many people. I am pleased to have been able to support the updating of equipment to assist with this critical role, and trust that competitors and spectators alike will appreciate the fair play that this helps to maintain.”
