Tourism Attraction To Re-open 8 August 2007

With the introduction of a number of simple bio-security measures it has been agreed that the Curraghs Wildlife Park can re-open to visitors from Thursday 9th August, 2007.

The Wildlife Park, along with a range of countryside facilities in the Isle of Man, was closed as a precaution on news of the discovery of a foot and mouth outbreak in the United Kingdom, on Saturday 5th August. Since then, disinfectant mats have been put in place at the points of entry to the Isle of Man and this precaution has been repeated at the Wildlife Park. The few animals at the Park susceptible to the disease have been placed in enclosures away from the public, preventing contact with visitors, and the animal keepers are asked to follow simple, sensible precautions such as disinfecting vehicles and work boots.

Mr Adrian Earnshaw, MHK, Minister for Tourism, said;

“I am delighted that the Park can now reopen and continue entertaining and instructing visitors, showing them the fascination of the natural world. Whilst it was a prudent decision by the Department of Agriculture to close it immediately, now that we have been able properly to assess the risks and take appropriate bio-security measures it is sensible to reopen”.
