Appointment of new members of the Gambling Supervision Commission 31 August 2007

The Chief Minister announced today the appointment of the Chairman, and a new member, of the Gambling Supervision Commission.

Mrs Claire Milne, a qualified solicitor and Manx advocate, has been appointed Chairman of the Commission. Mrs Milne has a background in intellectual property, IT Law and data protection, including e-money, e-commerce and e-gaming. Mrs Milne replaces outgoing Chairman, Ms Jane O’Rourke.

Well known local advocate, Mr Jerry Carter, has been appointed a member of the Commission. Mr Carter brings with him a wealth of experience, together with a keen interest in public and Island life.

The Chief Minister, in announcing the new appointments, stated that:

“The recent placing of the Isle of Man on the United Kingdom “white list”, which allows Isle of Man based e-Gaming companies to market in the UK, has highlighted the importance of the e-Gaming sector to the Isle of Man economy. The regulator of the sector, that is the Gambling Supervision Commission, has an important and high profile role to undertake in ensuring that the sector is effectively regulated. I am therefore delighted to be able to announce that we have been successful in appointing such high calibre individuals.”
