Minister praises 'untiring' work of Geoff Cannell 27 September 2007

MINISTER for Education Anne Craine has praised the untiring contribution to education given by late Board Member Geoff Cannell.

Mr Cannell, who was elected to the Board of Education in 2002, and represented Douglas West, died suddenly on Monday at the age of 65.

Mrs Craine, who is in India attending a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference, said:

'Geoff was a valued Member of the Board of Education. Following his election to the Board in 2002, he made an untiring and positive contribution to the education of all of the children of the Isle of Man.
'He worked well with his colleagues and held a clear vision as to the future role of the Board. His close relationships with the schools he represented were well recognised and he will be sorely missed by all those he worked with.
'Geoff will be remembered for his contribution to many areas of Island life and his legacy of commitment to education will not be forgotten. I express the sympathy of all of us in Education to his wife Lynda and daughter Zoe at this sad time.'
