New for Visitors - Isle of Man Holiday Magazine 2008 7 December 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure are hoping to attract visitors to take a holiday to the Isle of Man with the launch of a new 2008 Isle of Man holiday and lifestyle magazine.

This year the Isle of Man holiday guide has taken the new format of a holiday and lifestyle consumer magazine, with featured articles by Island residents. Over 22,000 copies have already been distributed. The cover of the 92 page colour publication features a picture of kayakers enjoying a leisurely trip around Peel Castle and most of the images within the publication are those of the 2007 winners of the Isle of Man Tourism Photo competition and previous winners.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

‘I am looking forward to an exciting year for tourism in 2008. The magazine highlights events such as the TT, Isle of Man Walking Festival, Adventure Week, Crown Green Bowling and Darts Festivals, all of which have been highly successful during recent years and, indeed, we will continue to expand on them. It also features all the attractions our beautiful Island has to offer as well as the accommodation advertisements traditionally featured in the second section. It is important we mention everything available to potential visitors to the Island and I am certain we have conveyed all our heritage sites, activities, pictures and information in the magazine to entice people to visit. I am hopeful it will encourage people to holiday on the Isle of Man next year as the Isle of Man continues to flourish.’

Director of Tourism Geoff Le Page commented:

‘We have decided to opt for a lifestyle consumer type magazine this year, instead of the traditional holiday guide, as research has shown that this is the way forward. The Department of Tourism and Leisure has recently identified a number of key markets including Coast, Railways, Motorsport, Culture and Nature and all these have been captured within it. It is our aim to improve our methods of communication each year and I am delighted with this new style of publication.’

The Department of Tourism and Leisure would like to thank Miles Cowsill and Lily Publications, who produced the magazine for the Department, and all those who have contributed to the content, including Barry Edwards for his steam railway feature, John Galpin of Whale and Dolphin Watch, Sara Kruger who writes about the film industry, Duncan Bridges of Manx Wildlife Trust, Mick Duckworth for his motorsport article, Chris Sharpe of Manx Bird Atlas and Carol Basnett, whose shopping list can help you on your way to bagging a treat or two.
