Outdoor show takes in a breath of fresh Manx Air 2 April 2008

The Isle of Man was represented at the Outdoor Show in Birmingham earlier this month, 14th-16th March, to promote the Island as a great destination for outdoor activities and adventure holidays.

Over 35,000 visitors attended the Show and, among those who welcomed them to the Isle of Man stand were representatives from the Venture Centre, Adventurous Experiences, the Manx Mountain Bike Club and the Walking Festival Committee.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said:

'The Outdoor Show is an excellent way for the Department to promote the vast and diverse outdoor beauty that the Isle of Man boasts. With over 100 miles of coastline, a cycle trail network and unlimited walking options, we are fortunate to be able to cater for lovers of the great outdoors in many different capacities. I am grateful for the co-operation from all our industry partners who participated in the Show and look forward to us building on the success of activity holidays in the future.’

Owner and lead instructor of Adventurous Experiences Keirron Tastagh added:

‘The event proved a great success with considerable interest shown in all the activities the Island has to offer. We had many enquiries about sea kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, family holidays and Adventure Week which takes place 14th – 18th August this year. It was a great opportunity to raise the Isle of Man’s profile as a quality destination for activity based holidays and get feedback from potential visitors.’

Visitors to the Stand also had the opportunity to enter a competition to win a holiday for two to take part in the Isle of Man June Walking Festival. Around 1000 entries were received and the lucky winner was Mr Sandy Waldie from Hungerford in Berkshire.

Meanwhile preparations are afoot for this year’s Walking Festival which takes place from June 22-27 and already walkers from as far a field as Germany, California, Florida and Kentucky have booked their places.
