Daff Consults on the Future Of Sulby Claddagh 24 April 2008

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has made a number of changes to the Byelaws and general management of the Sulby Claddagh over recent years. A clear way forward for the future of the Claddagh remains, however, to be determined.

Over the years concerns have risen over the increased level of camping and its effect on use of the land for picnics and similar family recreation.

The Department recognises the site has unique status, it having been described as ‘common land’. It is therefore seeking the views of the public, Local Authorities and other interest groups on its future.

A paper providing further background information on this public consultation exercise can be obtained from http://www.gov.im/daff/Consultations/SulbyCladdagh, the Forestry Division Office at St. Johns on 801263 or at Rose House, 51-59 Circular Road, Douglas.

The Department would welcome your comments which should be addressed to Mr. R.A. Sidebottom, Director of Forestry, Amenity and Lands, Hope Road, St. Johns, IM4 3AS. Closing date for responses is 9th June 2008. Where appropriate, views submitted in writing should preferably be signed by the respondent stating their official position within the organisation (responses should be marked as confidential if you do not want them to subsequently be published).
