IOM Film Festival 2008 18 July 2008

The Isle of Man Arts Council is pleased to announce it’s second annual Film Festival which takes place between 28th and 31st August. Building on the success of last year’s festival the Island will see the return of Under the Stars outdoor cinema at the Nunnery and an expanded programme of events during the four days.

The festival this year has a theme of multiculturalism and will include International cinema. Additionally, the participants in this summer’s film school will make a documentary with the title Multicultural Mann which will then be archived by the Manx Heritage Foundation. The festival includes a Filipino film showing at the Erin Arts Centre and Polish and Czech cinema at Fiesta Havana. Under the Stars will feature favourites such as Dirty Dancing and Shaun of the Dead and documentaries will be shown at the Manx Museum.

Emma Gleave, Arts Development Manager said ‘We really wanted to have a varied festival this year and I think we’ll have something for everybody. The Arts Council is delighted to be working with Isle of Man Film again on Under the Stars and also to be working with a range of venues for the festival events. We hope to continue making the film festival bigger and better.’

Tickets for films will be sold by the individual venues. Tickets for Under the Stars are available by telephoning the ticket hotline on 694555. For more information about any of the events telephone the Arts Council on 694598 or visit -ENDS-
