Overseas Aid Committee 20 November 2008

Applications for Lay Member

The Overseas Aid Committee is a Government Sub-Committee appointed by the Council of Ministers to administer and distribute the Isle of Man Government’s Overseas Aid budget, in accordance its Overseas Aid policy.

The Committee comprises three political members, and two lay members. Members are appointed at the pleasure of the Council of Ministers, for a period of five years. There is currently a vacancy for a second lay member to be appointed to the Committee.

The Committee meets between 4 and 8 times a year to consider applications for funding from the Isle of Man Government’s Overseas Aid budget. For the 2008/09 financial year the Overseas Aid budget was £2.2M, and over 200 applications for funding were received.

No formal qualifications are required for this position, but experience of overseas development issues, regulatory or management experience, or experience of casework/project work is desirable. The ability to analyse and review complex issues, weighing up conflicting opinions and identify appropriate actions, sometimes making difficult choices, is essential.
