Manx Food Fayre and Woodland Discovery Success 7 July 2009 The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestrys Manx Food Fayre, which was held at Garey ny Cloie Gardens on Tynwald Day, was a resounding success with over a thousand people visiting to find out more about local produce.
A variety of stall holders were there on the day to promote their local produce and show the fantastic food the Island has to offer. Exhibitors that attended were: IOM Meats, IOM Creameries, T & P Kermeen Butchers, Staarvey Farm, Bryan Radcliffe Veg, Ard Jerkyll Catering, B & M Catering, Jimbos and Davisons ice cream. A cooking demonstration in the Manx Food Live Theatre was given by Kathryn Sentence from Relish Cookery School who passed on her hints and tips on using fresh local produce which was very well attended. Guest speakers were Phil Teare from IOM Meats, Pentti Christian from Ellerslie Farm, Kathy Neale from Greeba Farm Mushrooms, Allison Radcliffe from Laxey School recipe book.
Members of Stay on a Manx Farm Group handed out leaflets and spoke to interested members of the public about how their members are entirely full time farmers who have diversified into farm based holiday accommodation, all providing their guests with welcome packs of Manx produce on arrival.. Minister for Agriculture Phil Gawne MHK said: It was fantastic to see so many people attending the event on Tynwald Day. We have such an abundance of fantastic produce which is being brought to the forefront through events such as this. Using local produce is so important in this day and age with rising fuel costs and concerns over carbon emissions it makes sense to buy Manx. I would like to thank all the members of the team who worked so hard to put this event together and make it the huge success it has been. More stories >>>
