One week left to apply for Beginners’ Film School 2011 15 July 2011

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Arts Development Office is running its successful Film School once again this summer.

Film School is free for participants and takes place during the summer holidays for children and young people. This year it will be held at St Ninian’s Lower School over three weeks and is split into different levels.

Weeks one and two take place 1 to 4 August and 8 to 12 August and are set at intermediate level for those with some film making experience, age 8 upwards. All places on these two weeks are filled but there is some availability on week three from 15 to 19 August – this week is for children aged 8 to 11 and is aimed at beginners. Sessions are run during the day 9am to 4pm during all three weeks. The application deadline for Beginners’ Film School has been extended to Thursday 22 July.

All participants can expect to be involved in and learn about all aspects of film making and can make their own film with the facilities provided. Participants in Film School often enter their films into the Arts Council’s Young Film Maker of Mann Competition and several have won the competition.

Quintin Gill, DCCL Member with responsibility for Arts, said:

‘We are delighted to provide this opportunity for young people. For those who have no experience but are creative, Film School for beginners (15 to 19 August) is a fantastic opportunity to see what they are capable of.’

Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure added:

‘The children involved get the chance to use high quality equipment and to learn new skills. Last year I was involved in one of the films that was made at Film School and was very impressed by the ability of the young people who were there.’

For an application form for Film School contact the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Arts Development Office on Tel: 694598 or email . The closing date for applications is Thursday 22 July.
