New Castletown Road, Douglas Major Roadworks to commence 1 June 2012
Starting Monday 11th June, there will be road major works taking place on the New Castletown Road at Pulrose Farm and on the approach to Quarterbridge.
The initial works will involve Haven Homes, the developers at Pulrose Farm, laying a new foul sewer connection to their site. This entails excavating a 3 metre deep trench across the road and unfortunately it will be necessary to close the road for five days to accommodate this work. The road closure will come into force at 9.15am on Monday 11th June, immediately after TT race week. New Castletown Road will be closed between Cooil Rd and Annacur Lane for the duration of the works, the diversion route will be via Kewaigue and South Quay or along Saddle Road and Vicarage Road.
The following week, from Sunday 17th June, the Department will be carrying out a major maintenance scheme between Saddle Road and Quarterbridge. This work will take 9 weeks and will involve upgrading the drainage systems, reconstructing the footways, installing a new controlled pedestrian crossing, and strengthening the carriageway. Traffic will be managed using a one-way system which will only allow traffic travelling south, out of Douglas, to pass through the work area. Traffic heading into Douglas from the south should use either Cooil Road/Vicarage Road or Kewaigue and South Quay to avoid delays at Groves Road traffic signals.
There will also be weekend closures to install ducting across side roads. Access to businesses will be maintained, with short duration closures for kerbing and resurfacing works to be advised. The right turn from New Castletown Road onto Saddle Road will not be permitted, with a diversion in place via Vicarage Road for residents of Saddlestone Estate.
The Department would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and co-operation whilst these improvements to the highway are carried out. If you have any concerns or queries regarding the work, please call 850000 for advice and information.
