Resurfacing of Main Road, Onchan 30 November 2012

The Department of Infrastructure advises that the final phases of the works will commence in Onchan on Monday 3rd December 2012 resurfacing Main Road, part of Royal Avenue, and part of Kelvin Road, working under night-time road closures from 1800-0000 hrs on weekday evenings.

The first phase will include the removal of the existing surfacing and the adjustment of ironwork (gulley gratings and manhole covers) on Main Road between Kelvin Road and Church Avenue, on Royal Avenue between Main Road and Auburn Road, and on Kelvin Road. This work is expected to last for up to 7 nights, although work will be suspended on 6th December for the Onchan Torchlight Parade.

The final phase will include the resurfacing of Main Road, Kelvin Road and Royal Avenue, the installation of road markings, and the cutting of traffic signal detector loops. The final traffic signal installation will also take place during this phase, which is expected to last for up to 10 nights.

Works will be continuing during the day under temporary traffic lights to complete the footway resurfacing works.

During this period, pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses and properties. Buses will operate a revised service via Alberta Drive and Lakeside Gardens during the evening closures. Traffic travelling to the north and east of the Island is requested to travel along the Promenade and King Edward Road to avoid traffic congestion. Local traffic should follow the diversion signs around the works.

It is planned to have the overall scheme completed by 18th December 2012.

The Department would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation. If you have any concerns or queries regarding the work, please phone 850000.
