Easter Film School 2013 8 March 2013

Manx Arts Development is happy to announce dates for its Easter Film School. Young people will be able to learn how to make their own films on 26 and 27 March (8-12 year olds) and the 2 and 3 April (13-16 year olds). Sessions run from 9.30am until 4pm at St Ninian’s Lower School.

The tutors running the two day courses are Dave Armstrong and Christy De Haven. Dave and Christy have worked extensively in the professional film industry and have their own company, DAM Productions, as well as running the short film making scheme Mannin Shorts. They have been working with Manx Arts Development to develop Film School and ensure it provides opportunities to learn for complete beginners and those with some experience of film making already.

Emma Callin, Community and Arts Development Manager said: “We continue to find that film making is hugely popular with young people and that with increased access to digital technology, film making is quite prolific on the island. We are very happy to be working with Dave and Christy, particularly to form a connection with the Mannin Shorts scheme which is providing excellent opportunities for anyone interested in working in the film industry.”

Places are limited on Film School but there is still availability. Places are charged at £55 per child for two days. The closing date for applications is 18th March 2013. Application forms can be obtained by contacting Manx Arts Development on tel: 694598 or email jan.cowan@gov.im .

It is anticipated that Film School will also run in the school summer holidays, dates to be confirmed. In addition, films can be entered into the Young Film Maker of Mann Competition later this year with finalists having their films shown during the Mannin Shorts Isle of Man Film Festival in September.
