Douglas event to launch second round of community meetings 12 April 2013

THE Council of Ministers will continue its programme of engagement with the public later this month when the next community meeting takes place at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre.

Wednesday, 24 April 2013, will see a return to the Island’s capital for the regional event, which provides an opportunity for people to talk to Ministers about issues of national importance. Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK will once again chair proceedings and says he is looking forward to another open and honest exchange of views.

Mr Bell said: ‘I introduced the concept of taking CoMin to the people back in March 2012, so this latest event in Douglas will mark the start of our second round of meetings. We will also be returning to the west, south and north of the Island in the months ahead, provided there is continued support from the public. The intention is to make Government more open and accountable and to give local residents an opportunity to meet the Ministers face-to-face and put their questions to us. These meetings have proved an effective way of communicating directly with the public, not only to explain Government’s policies and actions, but more importantly to listen to the views, ideas and concerns of local residents.’

The Chief Minister will open the meeting and Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK will provide an update on Government’s financial rebalancing strategy before the floor is opened to the public. In addition to asking questions directly during the open Q&A session, members of the audience in Douglas will also be able to submit written questions.

The community meeting at the Manx Museum Lecture Theatre will start at 7pm on April 24, with doors opening at 6.30pm. The event is free and open to all members of the public. There is a limit on the number of people the venue can accommodate and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. No bookings will be taken.
