New Social Security Director 29 October 2003

The Department of Health and Social Security is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Director of Social Security, Ken Crellin. Ken, aged 49, will officially take up his new post on 1st December.

For the last 8 years Ken has been employed as the Head of Operations within Government’s Personnel Office, having been promoted in 1996 from a post within the DHSS where he was Operations Manager in the Department’s National Insurance Contributions Section. Ken was employed in the Department’s Inspectorate from 1979 to 1984, before gaining promotion to Head of the Inspectors Legal Group, following which he took over as Head of the National Insurance Contributions Section prior to his promotion to the Personnel Office.

On accepting the offer of his new post Ken said

“I am delighted to be given this opportunity to lead the Division of the Department in which I have previously served for 17 years in a number of posts. Following on from the previous Director (George Hull) will be a considerable challenge but one that I’m looking forward to with enthusiasm, particularly in the knowledge that he has left in place a strong legacy and a very effective team which will be vital to support me, particularly in the early days of my appointment”.

The Department’s Chief Executive, David Killip, added

“I warmly welcome Ken back to the Department. I’m sure he will prove to be a key appointment within the Senior Management Team as Director of Social Security. It has been gratifying to hear such positive feedback concerning his appointment from staff members in his Division. For a short time earlier in our careers we were colleagues in the Personnel Office and it will be a pleasure to renew our working collaboration”.
