Passenger Views Sought 21 November 2003

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is commissioning a passenger satisfaction survey on the buses next month.

Isle of Man Transport has appointed transport specialists, the TAS Partnership of Preston, Lancashire, to undertake the survey on the Island's bus services. The survey will take place in early December this year.

Passengers travelling on various bus services will be given postage paid reply cards to complete which will include a number of questions relating to their use and satisfaction level of the bus service. The results will be collated by the TAS Partnership, and details of the conclusions will be published.

Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney, whose Department has responsibility for the IoM Transport, welcomed the survey. He said: 'This fulfils a promise made in my Department's Service Delivery Plan and will give us information that can be used in improving our public transport services which are continuing to see improvements with sustained financial investment.'

During next summer, the Department hopes to commission similar surveys on the steam railway and Manx Electric Railway.

The TAS Partnership has extensive experience of working for public transport operators and has undertaken similar surveys for bus and rail operators in the UK. The company was previously appointed by the Department to investigate the feasibility of commuter trains between Douglas and Port Erin. In August they concluded that peak hour trains would not be commercially viable at the present time.
