Commonwealth Visitors 17 May 2004

Members of Parliaments throughout the Commonwealth visited the Island between the 13th and 15th of May as part of a United Kingdom Parliamentary visit. Delegates from Australia, Bangladesh, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Gambia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nevis, New Zealand, Nigeria, St Lucia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago and Uganda were on the list of those attending. The Isle of Man delegate was Mr George Waft MLC. The short visit included visits to heritage sites such as Tynwald Hill and Castle Rushen, and there were parliamentary discussions with Members of Tynwald.

The Isle of Man Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association plays a full part in the activities of the Association and regularly hosts Members of Commonwealth Parliaments for visits and conferences. Likewise, many Members of Tynwald have been given the opportunity to visit Commonwealth countries as delegates to various CPA events. The next such event is a seminar in Malaysia at the end of May, which Mrs Pam Crowe MLC will be attending. The Isle of Man will for the first time host the mid-year meeting of the Executive Committee in the spring of 2006.
