Flights to Southampton 26 November 2004

EuroManx's plans to start direct flights to Southampton and to increase capacity on flights to London City have been welcomed by Tourism Minister David Cretney.

The airline has announced plans to launch twice daily direct flights to Southampton, starting on March 28. EuroManx is to start operating two 82-seater Avro RJ70 jets to Southampton and to London City. Under a commercial agreement with flyBE, EuroManx will take over the London City route from January 10. Fares to both destinations will be from 99 return.

Mr Cretney commented:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the Island. Not only will the services bring a whole new market to the Isle of Man but they will immediately create jobs and open up an opportunity for us to link into Jersey and other European destinations via Southampton, and I wish EuroManx well. Their Manx welcome, friendly service and flexible approach is very positive for the Isle of Man.

"EuroManx is co-operating with flyBE to enable passengers on the Southampton flights to take connecting flights on to Jersey. The will mean day trips to Jersey will be possible - something I feel sure will interest the business community on the Isle of Man."

EuroManx is also increasing capacity on services from Glasgow, Liverpool and Dublin. In addition the jet aircraft will be used to operate flights to Belfast City Airport with fares from £79.

Carol Glover, Department Chief Executive, said:

"We are very excited about the new flights operated by EuroManx. This is a huge bonus for the Island as we are expecting 2005 to be our busiest year yet with some great events including the TT 2005 Car Centenary, British Chess Championships and the return of the Walking Festival.

"The news comes at a time when we are repositioning the Isle of Man as an 'Island of adventures', whether that adventure is sea kayaking and abseiling or something more relaxing like visiting one of Europe's most complete medieval castles or sampling our indigenous cuisine."
