Inflation Falls to 3.7% 2 June 2005

The annual rate of inflation has continued to fall in May and now stands at 3.7%, down 0.6% on its April figure.

During the year the Fuel and Light category has recorded the largest increase of 23.1%. However, over the month Fuel and Light has decreased by 0.4%. The Tobacco and the Personal Goods and Services indices have over the year shown the other largest increases of 6.9% and 5.8% respectively.

The only significant change between mid-April and mid-May was in Tobacco which increased by 1.3%. The Food category recorded a slight fall of 0.5% over the same period partly due to seasonal adjustments.

The General Index of Retail Prices for all items now stands at 118.8 (January 2000 = 100.0).
