The annual World Tin Bath Championship was started in 1971. It takes place
in Castletown Harbour with nearly a hundred competitors and thousands of
spectators. Being the only
race of its kind, the event draws eager tin bath racers into cold harbour
waters. As well as bath races, there are also snake races, short
entertainment displays, and even a rope drop. A fun afternoon for the
whole family, as wacky races hit the Isle of Man.
The races are connected with the Castletown Ale Drinkers Society, who are
dedicated to raising money for local charities. The money raised from the
small entry fee to the World Tin Bath Championship is donated to a local
charity.
