‘Staying the Course’ stays on! 14 September 2007

TT Centenary ExhibitionManx National Heritage has announced that its special centenary TT exhibition, ‘Staying the Course’ has been extended due to popular demand. The exhibition was due to close on 15th September but will now run for a further eight week period until 10th November 2007.

Manx National Heritage has recorded over 66,000 visits to the Manx Museum since the launch of the exhibition, which has proven to be extremely popular with both local residents and visitors from across the world.

Matthew Richardson, MNH Curator of Social History commented:

“The response which we have had to this exhibition has just been phenomenal. I don’t think I have ever seen people queuing to get into an exhibition here before! I think it just goes to show how much affection exists for the TT around the world. Our visitors book includes comments from as far afield as Norway, Japan, Australia and the USA, and the comments are overwhelmingly positive. The popularity of the exhibition has underlined what a great asset the Island has in the TT, and what a unique sporting event it is”.

‘Staying the Course’ is about the many different people who have contributed to the TT and who together make it what it is. These include riders, mechanics, marshals manufacturers and of course spectators. The exhibition features helmets, leathers, trophies and motorbikes from the 100 year history of the event. Among the more dramatic artefacts on show is Dave Molyneux’s burnt out sidecar from the 2006 TT, whilst other objects illustrate aspects of the TT which visitors might not normally be aware of, for example the copper sprit stove which Dr Pantin used on chilly morning practices in the 1920s.

The exhibition includes the opportunity to enjoy the ‘TT Superbikes’ Playstation 2 game and is open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm, until 10th November 2007. Admission to this unique exhibition and the rest of the Manx Museum is free of charge.
